Some thought-points on facilitating the public meeting process:
- Always be clear with participants what is and what is not on the table.
- Describe the flow of the session clearly and concisely.
- The best agenda is short.
- Ensure the time allotments are realistic (and a bit more too).
- Respect process but focus on outcomes.
- Facilitators steer, the destination emerges from dialogue.
- No one session can do or decide everything.
- Being kind to grandstanding is being unkind to the voices it drowns out.
- Provide multiple feedback mechanisms.
- Record and Report Back.
