Some thought-points on facilitating the public meeting process:

  1. Always be clear with participants what is and what is not on the table.
  2. Describe the flow of the session clearly and concisely.
  3. The best agenda is short.
  4. Ensure the time allotments are realistic (and a bit more too).
  5. Respect process but focus on outcomes.
  6. Facilitators steer, the destination emerges from dialogue.
  7. No one session can do or decide everything.
  8. Being kind to grandstanding is being unkind to the voices it drowns out.
  9. Provide multiple feedback mechanisms.
  10. Record and Report Back.
